First prize in the "Top Job" competition in recognition of its outstanding HR management

Karlsruhe, 31st January 2009. CAS Software AG has come first in this year's national corporate-benchmarking competition, "Top Job". The jury was particularly impressed by the way in which HR management is systematically integrated into the company's overall strategy and its professional approach in this area. The Top Job business initiative has been going for seven years, seeking out and recognising outstanding HR management in small and medium-sized enterprises. Wolfgang Clement, Germany's former economics minister and mentor of the Top Job initiative, will be presenting CAS Software with the prestigious "Employer of the Year" award this Friday evening at a ceremony in Duisburg-Nord Industrial Landscape Park. The prize will be accepted by CAS executive director Martin Hubschneider.

In making the award, Wolfgang Clement will be recognising CAS's achievements in the six categories examined: "Culture & Communication", "Family Awareness & Demography", "Internal Entrepreneurship", "Staff Development & Prospects", "Leadership & Vision" and "Motivation & Dynamism". The new "Employer of the Year" - which was also ranked among the 100 best employers in the German SME sector last year - made it into the top ten for all categories.

"CAS Software AG takes a holistic approach to HR management, laying solid foundations that set the company in good stead for the future," said jury member and laudator Dr Walter Döring, former economics minister for the state of Baden-Württemberg, explaining the jury's decision. "CAS is an excellent model for all small and medium-sized businesses who want to be good employers - not just for recruitment reasons, but also because they regard strategic HR management as a productive and creative driving force within the company."

The judges were also impressed by the range of cutting-edge HR tools, perfectly adapted to meet the company's needs. This results in open communication and has led to a corporate culture shared and lived by all, an employee-centred management style and plenty of development opportunities. For example, CAS - the leading German CRM specialist - has created an environment within which staff can manage their own learning from their workstations, with a virtual library supporting the 166 employees in their professional development. And the inhouse CAS academy also offers opportunities for personal development, based on a carefully conducted analysis of needs. "We want to make people more successful," explains executive director Martin Hubschneider. "Our customers as well as our employees."

To earn the award, the company had to undergo a thorough two-stage process devised by the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Led by institute director, Professor Heike Bruch, the experts review the tools used for HR management by the participating companies and carry out a detailed online staff survey. "Time and time again, the results of our investigations have shown that a strategic approach to HR management is directly reflected in the company's bottom line," says Professor Bruch. "Put simply: Good employers are commercially successful. This correlation will become even stronger in future. Companies that actively seek to make themselves more attractive as an employer will become significantly more competitive." This makes Martin Hubschneider all the more proud of his company's success: "Top Job is only open to companies for whom HR management is a high priority. To be recognised as the best SME employer within such a competitive environment will really motivate our staff and make us even more attractive to highly qualified employees in future." More than 212 companies entered the Top Job competition this year. All 100 Top Job companies are featured in the book "TOP JOB – Germany's 100 best SME employers" published by Bruch and Clement, and profiled on the website www.topjob.de. The project's mentor is Wolfgang Clement, Germany's former economics minister. KG and Süddeutsche Zeitung. The Top Job project is coordinated by Professor Heike Bruch, director of the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen. She has earned a prominent reputation, particularly in the fields of change management and leadership.
